A buyer abroad pays 120 US dollars by card. A cross-border provider chosen by Peneu captures the payment, the remittance purpose code and invoice reference are attached, and the merchant is settled in Indian rupees in their Indian bank account, net of fees.

The problem

Getting paid from abroad is still slow and manual

Wire transfers take days, intermediary banks take a cut you only see on arrival, and someone has to chase the purpose code and remittance paperwork afterwards. Many domestic payment setups don't accept international cards at all, or accept them without the details an exporter needs.

What exporters and SaaS teams run into

  • International cards declined because the setup is domestic-only
  • Wires arriving short, with no breakdown of deductions
  • Purpose codes and invoice references sorted out after the fact
  • Buyers asked to pay in INR when they expected their own currency

How it works

From a buyer abroad to INR in your account

  1. 01

    Invoice or checkout

Share a payment link or use your checkout. Where the provider supports it, the buyer sees the amount in their own currency.

  2. 02

    The buyer pays

By international card, with the authentication the card's issuer requires.

  3. 03

    Routed to a cross-border provider

Peneu sends the payment to a connected provider that supports that currency, that card type and your kind of business.

  4. 04

Settled in INR, with the paperwork

The provider converts at its rate and settles INR to your Indian account, net of its fees. The purpose code and invoice reference stay attached to the payment.

Reach

One integration, customers in many currencies

Which currencies and card types you can accept depends on the cross-border providers connected for your business, and it's confirmed during onboarding. The currencies shown here are examples, not a list of live corridors.

Because collection runs through the same Peneu integration as your domestic payments, you get the same status model, webhooks and reconciliation for international payments too.

Worth knowing

The regulatory side

In India, cross-border collections through payment aggregators are governed by RBI's framework for cross-border payment aggregators (PA-CB) and by FEMA. Providers can ask for invoices, shipping or service documents, and some categories have per-transaction limits.

Peneu routes each payment to a provider that supports your use case. It doesn't change what that provider is required to check.

FAQ

Questions about global payment collection

Which currencies can I accept?

That depends on the cross-border providers connected for your business. Common examples are USD, EUR, GBP and AED. The exact list is confirmed during onboarding.

When do I receive the INR?

The provider sets the settlement timing and it's usually longer than for domestic payments. You'll see it in the provider's terms before you go live, and every settlement is reconciled in Peneu.

Do I get remittance documentation?

The provider or its partner bank issues inward remittance documentation. The documents available depend on the provider, and we'll tell you which apply before you go live.

Can I use this for sending money abroad?

No. This page covers collecting from abroad. Outbound cross-border transfers are a separate product, so see cross-border payments.
